Here, at last, is the latest edition of NBTN News! Many apologies for the time lapse between the last newsletter and this one – it’s been a busy time with transferring over to Business in the Community (BITC) from the Campaign for Better Transport and then, unfortunately, I was out of action for a couple of months (just in case you wondered why I’d been so quiet!) but we’re getting back on track now.

Cycle to Work Guarantee Scheme
Cycling to work is a great way for people to get, and stay, fit and healthy. For businesses, a healthier workforce means higher productivity, reduced absenteeism and improved punctuality. The Cycle to Work Guarantee is a voluntary initiative from the Department for Transport, challenging businesses to become cycle friendly employers by making it easy for staff to cycle to and from work.

A series of BITC / NBTN events are planned for this year with the first of these taking place during February and March. Cycle to Work Guarantee Toolkits have been produced and these will be launched at the first event in Birmingham and available at the other events.

BITC Health and Work Summit

Attitudes towards climate change
The Department for Transport published the ”Public attitudes towards climate change and the impact of transport: 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009” report with the aim to provide the latest information on people’s attitudes towards climate change in relation to transport and to what extent attitudes have changed over the years.

Business attitudes to transport
As part of wider goal to better understand and take account of the views of businesses, DfT commissioned a review of existing UK research evidence on private sector business attitudes to transport. The review will also help determine the future needs of the transport system. The evidence reviewed consisted of reports and studies from 1994-2008.

NBTN Webcast
NBTN took its message to Hampshire in November 2009 as part of the county council’s Smart Commute Week, without even travelling there.
The pioneering council has a reputation for “green credentials” which includes innovative use of technology to cut its carbon footprint and to encourage others in the region to do so.

Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership
The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership brings together over 350 organisations from across the government, the automotive and fuel industries, the environmental sector, academia, road user groups and others with a stake in the low carbon vehicles and fuels agenda. Its aim is to accelerate the shift to low carbon vehicles and fuels in the UK and to help ensure that UK business can benefit from that shift.
