Introduction to easitNetwork

Easit has been running for four years in the South East, delivering initiatives to reduce congestion and pollution and generate greater use of sustainable travel modes. Their approach and methodology has proved to be very effective and they now represent over 65,000 employees across Dorking, Reigate and Crawley. A number of large organisations are involved, including:

  • Surrey and West Sussex County Councils;
  • Reigate and Banstead and Crawley Borough Councils;
  • BAA;
  • Siemens;
  • BBC;
  • Pfizer; and
  • West Sussex Economic Partnership.

To date some 15–20 initiatives have been launched which have resulted in over 5000 single occupied car journeys a week being converted to alternative forms of more sustainable forms of transport.

The delivery can be tailored to suit the requirements of the area, using information gathered from staff travel surveys (which can also provide a wealth of useful information). At inception, each easitFORUM is initially funded with public money and aims to become self sufficient within three years, through a membership fee system.

Easit are keen to provide their expertise, experience and methodology without charge to other areas around the country and would be happy to work with organisations, in particular local and regional bodies, to help them deliver similar successful schemes in their areas. They would be happy to refer enquirers to their customers and member companies and interested bodies would be welcome to attend one of their meetings.
